Tribute to Brian Totterdill
It is with regret that we report the recent death of Brian Totterdill.
Brian was a long term and active grass roots member of the ICE and many other institutions and societies both in the UK and Internationally. He was a strong advocate of consensual dispute resolution and acted as arbitrator, adjudicator and mediator in innumerable cases. He pioneered the concept and system of basic training for adjudicators and spread the word of FIDIC throughout the world. Brian’s theme was always training in preference to academic study.
Amongst his many achievements were his internationally recognised publications relating to the FIDIC suite of Contract Forms together with other books relating to Adjudication and Dispute Boards.
Brian was both a gentleman and a gentle man. His quiet clever way always came through. If he agreed with you on some committee or other that was a sure sign that you had got it right at last.
He was born in 1933 and lived in a quite rural village in the Bristol area and was a keen gardener.
Our sincere condolences go out to his devoted wife Brenda and to his family and friends.
