The London Region of the Society held a joint meeting with TecBar on 29th May 2003 which was hosted by Hammonds. The meeting, which was attended by approximately 50, was addressed by Bill Gloyn of AON on the subject of "Professional Indemnity Insurers views on adjudication". This was followed by a lively debate which aired the participants' concerns over some of the restrictions which underwriters were seeking to impose on their policies in relation to Adjudication. The Powerpoint slides of Bill's talk are available on the Web Site.
At the next meeting on 17th September 2003, which will be held jointly with the Society of Construction Law, Robert Akenhead QC will speak on "What constitutes a contract in writing for the purposes of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996". This talk follows the decision in Carillion Construction -v- Devonport Royal Dockyard. The meeting is to be hosted by Clifford Chance at their new offices at Canary Wharf.
Since it is your Society and Region, I would welcome suggestions for future meetings from any member whether of the London or any other Region.
